So I joined eMusic.com and signed up for their monthly subscription program, which is reasonable…but their music selection is extremely limited so after a few months of paying and not finding any music I liked I cancelled my paid membership because it was a waste of money.
When I cancelled I still had about 60 downloads available, so I figured I would log in at a later date and see if they had a better choice of music so I could use those downloads…I just logged into my account to do just that, but noticed that there were no downloads available in my account…I proceeded to click on their live chat support.
Felix was my “customer support representative”, I don’t mind using his name here because he was kind of a dick, the conversation is below:
Me: What had happened to the downloads in my account…(he had to look in my account)
Felix: “I see you cancelled your account”.
Me: “I cancelled my paid membership not my account.”
Felix: “If you joined a gym and then cancelled your membership, would you still be able to use the facilities?” (he used the gym analogy several times, probably due to lack of an intelligent answer)
Me: “If I paid for a trainer at the gym and then cancelled my membership, I’m still going to use the trainer.”
Felix: If you reactivate your account I can add a month of downloads as a gesture of good will.” (Gee thanks Felix for doing something that would be done automatically anyway.)
Me: “This is a class action suit waiting to happen.”
Felix: “Ok., Is there anything else I can help you with?”
I didn’t type anything else and just closed the chat window, several things to say did crossed my mind, but that wouldn’t have done anyone any good.
The moral of the story: eMusic.com sucks ass! Their music selection i marginal at best! Don’t waste your money!
Felix if you’re reading this, you need to do something with your life instead of projecting your misery on others. If you don’t like your life and what you do, simply change it…yes it is that simple!
I downloaded lots of songs and was a member for months. When I canceled my membership the songs quit working. Do not waste your money on these mothers it is a RIPOFF for sure!
Sorry about my bad grammar.
I just got ripped off myself. I signed up for a the free 7 day trial and 25 FREE downloads Yesterday. There’s selection left a lot to be desired. I said fairly explicitly when I signed up and gave them my card number (Dumb, I know) that they only need the number for record keeping purposes. I cancelled the account the very same day about 2 hours after I signed up for it.
Sure as shit, I looked at my bank account and there is a 11.99 debit FROM my account for a month long membership. I sent an email to them first (it’s chrismas eve so forget about it.) I sent an email to my bank; again, they’re closed for the holidays. So, I called Emusic personally. I got some women who ask me to “verify” my information. My last 8 digits of my card number, My email address, my zip code (which I don’t believe I was asked to provide when I first signed up.) My email adress AGAIN, and then my ZIP CODE AGAIN. Icaught on pretty quickly (thank GOD.) She basically kept talking and talking so I couldn’t get a word in edgewise. I man aged to get my point that I wanted That money back in my account. She kept trying different angles Like” let me explained to you what happened”, “can you verify when you cancelled the account?” and blah-blah-blah. I cut her off for the final time to reiterate that I had called my bank, emailed them and I am contacting the better business bureau. I then hung up.
It’s a bait and switch con game. They offer you this and when you sign up it turns into somethin’ else entirely. The reasons I let myself get conned was becasue they are affiliated with winamp and they have other affilates that I always thought to
be respectable.
I’m now worried that they have my account information.
“Felix” not real name as real names are not used there was only giving you the pre-composed to a very common complaint… In fact I might have been “Felix”
60% of accounts are sleepers there. Because the cost per download is so low, they actually lose money by paying a higher amount in royalties than what they charge. That is why your downloads don’t carry over from one month to another, because then they would have to actually pay someone else.
The initial idea for emusic is a good one, but the people running it are laughing with your money. Literally.
Here is the real emusic contact info for customer service.

I agree with the orgional poster. Emusic.com is a ripoff. They “trick” people with cards for “20 free downloads” knowing people think this is like Apple and you get 20 free songs. I took their 20 free songs, signed up, realized they planned to charge me FOREVER to listen to music – most of which I already owned. I cancelled and guess what – the 20 free downloads they enticed me with STOPPED WORKING. Any company that reguarlly uses Bait and Switch is sleezy. AVOID EMUSIC – Im back at Amazon and iTunes buying and keeping my music 4 Ever.
HAHAHA! I just read the last one from Mr Shag…funny guy…what a douche…”I will not be responding because I have a life”. Too late buddy, you already responded.
As far as having a life, how miserable it must be for you to get so upset about a stranger making comments about a company that has more than 2 pages in Google of people who also thinks eMusic Sucks!! I’m just expressing my opinions which also seems to be the opinion of a lot of people. Do you think eMusic gives a rat’s ass about you!!?? Not a chance!!
Anyway, Shag and Stevie…have fun at eMusic…don’t take life so seriously…really, if this gets you that upset, I think it’s time for some introspection to figure out why you’re so on edge.
I’ll get back to my grapes now!

Oh, I’m sorry. I thought you intended people to take your complaint seriously and stay away from eMusic. This is a personal attack on an employee because you couldn’t get your way by thinking you’d have endless use of a canceled service.
You can go back to stroking yourself you Panzy. I’m sure you don’t have time for many things except bashing all the companies that don’t make your bed and feed you grapes.
Were we supposed to agree with you because you created this. Beat it, I will not be responding, I have a life.
Please note that I am also an eMusic member and I have a few issues with your post.
First, your argument makes no sense. There is no company that I know of, from gym memberships to cable (“I know I canceled my cable but why can’t I still watch HBO) and even cell phone usage that will allow you to use your account after it has been canceled. Cancel: 1) to make void; revoke; annul 2)to decide or announce that a planned event will not take place; call off. Plus, if I recall you have access to your account until the end of the month after you cancel.
Second, I have never had an issue with any of the customer service reps. at eMusic. They are always helpful and prompt. I do not know Felix personally but I’m sure that you have edited parts of your conversation to make it fit so that you are the victim.
Last but not least, the music is great. I have been a member for 2 1/2 years and I love it. Artist that are up and coming, music that I have never heard and probably will nit hear anywhere else and all inexpensive and easy.
I know you are probably thinking that I work for eMusic but I don’t. I just hate people who have nothing better to do than blog about good companies because they themselves lack common sense. Next time you feel like becoming a member of something read all the information first and stop wasting your and everyone else’s time with nonsense.
Reply from Admin: Stevie, talk about lacking common sense, you should make sure you’re not on your eMusic computer when you post things…you and Mr Shag…how fucking dumb are you:

Mr. Shag Wellington (IP: 38.105.162.11 , cogent-pat.ny.emusic.com)
I wonder if your boss would appreciate you fucking around on the internet when you’re supposed to be working!
P.S. The Yankees SUCK!!!
Stop your whining. Taking out your frustration on the representative simply because you’re upset is childish and intensely unprofessional, which is why I’m unable to take your complaint seriously.
If you can name a company that allows you to access and USE a CANCELED account, subscription of membership, please inform everyone so we can take advantage.
Rreply: Look Stevie or Felix or whatever, I’m not whining, I had just got done chatting with Felix and simply asked where my downloads were and he replied with that bullshit gym analogy, I then posted this…you and Stevie should hook up…you like eMusic, I think they suck…
Please tell me how a professional should act when posting something like…WTF does that mean??? Intensely unprofessional??? Please explain that one…then you and Stevie can get back to stroking eMusic!
