I just installed OpenOffice on my new machine and it works awesome! For those of you that don’t know what Open Office is, it’s an open source Office software suite like Microsoft Office…and seeing how it’s Open Source, it’s free.
It’s compatible with the latest Microsoft Office versions of Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and all the others. The reason why I installed it was because my friggin laptop had a virus and I had to do a recovery using the recovery discs that came with it. I bought the laptop because it had XP Pro installed on it, but the recovery discs installed Vista!! You can get XP downgrade discs, as they called them, for free if you hate Vista.
Anyway, after having Vista installed I found out that you can’t import the .pst file from OutLook…I’m sure there’s a way, I just haven’t found it yet. The .pst file has all the contacts from Outlook, I was able to import my mail and folders from Outlook Express into the new Windows Mail though, which was a life saver.
Anyway, anyway…I remembered I had an old Office 2000 disc, so I installed that thinking it would take care of the problem….no, I was wrong…everything worked except Outlook! Then I remembered I had downloaded Open Office, I installed it and it works great…it’s compatible with the latest versions of Microsoft Office, as anyone who’s tried to open a new version of any MS Office programs in an older version…you can’t do it…that’s because the greedy pricks at Microsoft want you to buy their latest crap…and I do mean crap!
I’ll never use any Microsoft Office programs again!!
